Always (or at least for the last decade) I have a sketch book handy to draw
whatever is in front of me, jot down an idea, color combo or to simply
doodle. As a result, I have a library of inspiration to draw from should I not
know what to paint next.

Mostly I am drawn to paint animals of all sorts, based on my personal
experience with the pups, kitties or flamingos in the wild. I am in awe at the
unique qualities of every species. Did you know octopus squirt out their
shape in 3 color chroma to confuse their predators, and they have a beak?
When I begin to paint something, I realize how little I know about how they
look, so research and sketching begin. Even if I’m doing an average
chocolate Labrador, I look for the ways this particular pet or animal is
unique.

I believe I have been created to create! Like a hiking trail, with each step
through different terrain, the painting progresses until the subject emerges.
Painting brings me great joy, healing, and a sense of satisfaction. My
mission is accomplished when my subject is revealed, and the viewer says
“This painting makes me happy!” Such a simple word, but I am content with
sharing more joy and happiness with the world around me.
