AUDREY HYVONEN
Audrey Hyvonen makes work using printed cotton fabrics and thread, exploring hard topics through this soft medium. Her work comments on the tensions of parenting, the political nature of bathroom access, national level divisions, and uses whimsy to feed our human connections. Her first notable art projects were an eclectic collection of immersive experiences for the public: a traffic-calming stiltwalking quilt parade, a pop-up tour of a quilt in progress, an outdoor “front porch” quilt tour for a city in MA and a handful of Circus Sketch Labs and exhibits. Following a cross-country relocation to join her extended family settled for four generations in Montana, Audrey’s practice evolved, shifting toward more intimate studio-based work.
Her quilted works have toured internationally with the juried SAQA’s Opposites Attract exhibition, and nationally in Threads of Resistance. Her design work is featured on an electrical box in downtown Kalispell and she has been excited to share her work at galleries in both Cutbank and Missoula. Showing here for the first time in Whitefish, Audrey continues to relish discovering joy and playfulness in artmaking, often inviting others to join the fun.
